Bouncers

Bouncers by John Godber shows a night on the tiles from the point of view of the men on the door. It is a funny, energetic piece of highly theatrical storytelling where the men are at once themselves and every character they happen to meet on a night at work at the nightclub.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice

by Jim Cartright

The Olivier award-winning comedy, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice is a sparkling night of music, divas and romance, written by Jim Cartwright and directed by Alan Goss. The play tells the story of a shy, reclusive girl named Little Voice and her larger than life out of control mother Mari. In this heart-warming tale, Little Voice, desperately missing her dead father, spends her time locked in her bedroom listening to his old record collection and perfecting astonishing impersonations of famous divas such as Shirley Bassey, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Dusty Springfield. Her remarkable talent remains a secret until she is overheard by a local talent scout Ray Say! When her mother Mari starts dating Ray Say, Mari thinks he’s her last chance for a better life. When Ray hears Little Voice sing, he thinks she’s his ticket to the big time. Ray sets about creating the show of the century with Little Voice as his star. When the big night arrives, Ray is convinced that this is his last chance for fame and fortune. But has anyone asked Little Voice what she wants?

About The Rejects

The Rejects were originally formed in 1988 by its founding members Stephen Emery (Stephen Moyer of TrueBlood fame), Barry Hester and Kevin Richards. Bringing a fresh new approach to the theatre they performed to critical acclaim The Long and the Short and The Tall, Bouncers, Twelve Angry Men, Private Wars and The Dumb Waiter amongst others. The company finally disbanded in the 90s as the members pursued their careers but now Kevin Richards and Barry Hester have decided to bring the company back to life again. So…. the first of the newly reformed Reject played a revival of their smash hit Bouncers in August 2017 at The Headgate Theatre, Colchester and again in October 2017 at Zinc Arts Theatre in Chipping Ongar, with further dates in 2018 recently scheduled due to popular demand.
As well as the revival of Bouncers the company have recently brought their version of the hilarious play, A Bunch of Amateurs, written by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman,to local theatre. This was very well received at ZincArt Theatre in Chipping Ongar and the production will have a further outing in January 2018 at the Headgate Theatre in Colchester. Do have a look at the ‘Whats On’ page to see future productions coming in 2018.

Lovely things people have said about us.

“Everything about this show – the set, the technical aspects, the shorting fuse were all so well executed.  I strongly recommend that if you haven’t got tickets for the final performances then you should definitely get some – you won’t be disappointed.” The Rise and Fall of Little Voice
